Philosophy
Gresham Barrett is a dedicated, conservative leader in the U.S. House of Representatives.
He believes in the principles of limited government, individual freedom and traditional values, and he is committed to taking those conservative ideals to Washington.
Background
Growing up in Westminster, South Carolina, Gresham Barrett learned the important values of hard work, family and service. As a boy, Gresham worked in the family furniture store. After graduating from the Citadel, Gresham was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. He married his high school sweetheart and after his military service the couple returned to Westminster.
Experience
Gresham represented Westminster and the surrounding communities in the South Carolina House of Representatives for three terms before being elected to Congress. In the State House, Gresham was known as a young, conservative leader who was willing to make the tough decisions no matter the political consequence. Recognizing his leadership, then Governor George W. Bush named Gresham to his State Steering Committee in his 2000 Presidential Campaign.
Responsibility
In Congress, Gresham is putting his real world experience and common sense values to work for us. Earlier this year, he authored legislation to simplify the current tax code by creating a bipartisan committee to develop a tax reform proposal that is simple, fair and encourages economic opportunity. Gresham is also working to eliminate burdensome federal regulations that hinder economic activity.
Military
As a former Captain in the U. S. Army, Gresham understands the importance of supporting the men and women of our Armed Forces.Gresham has traveled several times to Mosul and Kuwait.There he met with high-ranking military officials and soldiers from South Carolina serving in Baghdad, Mosul and Kuwait.
Values
Family has always come first for Gresham. He knows that without the love and support of his family, he would not be where he is today. Gresham is committed to supporting life-affirming legislation in the House of Representatives and to strengthening families across America.
Gresham, his wife Natalie and their three children live in Westminster. There they attend the Westminster Baptist Church and are active in the community.
